Bl. Alphonsus de Mena, Roman Catholic Dominican martyr of Japan. He was born in Logrono in Spain and entered the Dominican Order at Salamanca. A nephew of Blessed Peter Navarrete,
Alphonsus accompanied him to Japan where he worked in the Dominican missions. On September 10, 1622 Alphonsus was burned alive by the Japanese in a group of martyrs, led by Blessed Charles
Spinola at Nagasaki. Feastday June 1
